Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium is a brand new stadium located in North West London, England. With a capacity of 90,000 seats, Wembley is the second largest stadium in Europe after Camp Nou from Barcelona, Spain. Still, it is the largest stadium in the whole world with every seat under cover. Another record would be the fact that until now Wembley has remained the most expensive stadium ever built (798 million Pounds).

After its being opened in 2007, it was referred to as “the new Wembley Stadium,” in order to make a difference from the original stadium, built in 1923. “The old Wembley,” initially known as the British Empire Exhibition Stadium or Empire Stadium, was also a famous stadium, as it was called “The Home of Football.” It hosted the European Cup final five times (record) and a FIFA World Cup final. The old stadium was closed in 2000 and in 2003 the original structure went down and the new stadium started to be built. In March 2007, the new stadium was opened.
Wembley Stadium is mainly used for the matches of the country’s national football team, but also for other sports events and concerts.
