Stadium of Light
The Sunderland Association of Football’s home is the Stadium of Light. This stadium is an all-seater with a capacity of 49,000. The team started playing here in 1997 after a long history of games played in Roker Park; they moved in order to generate more attendance.

The Prince Andrew, Duke of York was the person who opened. The original capacity of the stadium was 42,000 but due to the high attendance the stadium was re-renovated to hold 49,000. Right outside the stadium sits a Davy Lamp monument. This represents the reminder of the Monkwearmouth Colliery pit that the stadium was originally built on.
