Ibrox Stadium
Formerly known as Ibrox Park, the home ground of Glasgow Rangers is situated on the south side of the River Clyde, in Glasgow. Ibrox is the name of the district where this football stadium is located.
Opened in 1899, Ibrox Stadium is one of the oldest stadium in the Kingdom, though not as old as Rangers’ rival’s “Paradise.” However, both Celtic’s and Rangers’ stadia were designed by the same architect, Archibald Leitch.
Unfortunately, this stadium’s history is marked by two disasters: the first one took place in 1902, when 25 people died and 517 were injured because of a terrace collapsing during a match with England; and the second one happened in 1971, when 66 people were killed. Rangers started a redevelopment of the stadium with this unwanted, tragic occasion.

At the moment, Ibrox has 51,082 seats, which is far less than decades ago, but makes the stadium safer. However, it is on Ibrox Stadium that a record crowd of 118,567 were present to watch a league match between Rangers and Celtic in 1939. This has remained a yet unbroken record for a league match in Britain.
According to an announcement at the beginning of 2008, Ibrox might become the largest sports stadium in Scotland with a capacity of 70,000 spectators. But this is only a possibility.
