Hampden Park

Located in Glasgow, Hampden Park is Scotland’s national stadium and the home ground of Queen’s Park FC and of the Scottish national football team. Initially built in 1903, the stadium is a legendary home of football because of its age.
Hampden Park was chosen as a venue for the early stages of the football tournament of the 2012 Olympic Games hosted by the United Kingdom.
With a capacity of 52,103 seats, Hampden Park is a UEFA 5-star venue. In 2014, it will be also a key ground of the Commonwealth Games, as it will host the athletics competitions.

Before Hampden Park was built in 1903, Queen’s Park played on two different grounds since 1873. These two stadiums were also called Hampden Park, but their locations had nothing to do with the current stadium, which was built in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow’s south side. Queen’s Park’s first game on the third Hampden Park stadium was a match against Celtic, which was won by the hosts.
Hampden Park was known for an interesting phonic phenomenon called the Hampden Roar. In early times, when the capacity at the ground exceeded 100,000 people, the crowds’ noise was propagated resembling a roar that could be heard miles away from the stadium. But, with capacity being decreased, the roar is not what it used to be decades ago.
