Galatasaray Spor Kulubu, or simply Galatasaray Istanbul, is a Turkish football club based in Istanbul. Founded in 1905, it is the first and the most successful and thus, also the most famous club in the history of Turkish football.
Galatasaray have broken both national and international records, having won more honours than any other Turkish team. Among their most notable successes one could mention the club’s winning the UEFA Cup in 2000 after beating Arsenal, their winning the Super Cup after beating UEFA Champions League winner Real Madrid during the same season, as well as their being ranked as the Best Football Club in the World at the beginning of 2001.
During the 2007-2008 season, Galatasaray SK won the Turkish Super League cup and had the honour to have no less than nine players selected for EURO 2008 finals – which has also been a record.
The only Turkish club have ever won a European title, Galatasaray are also the only team to have won the Turkish League tournament, the Turkish Cup, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup during the same season (1999-2000).
