Simply known as Ajax or Ajax Amsterdam, Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax is one of the three football clubs that top Eredivisie, the Dutch highest football league. Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Ajax has always been rivals with PSV and Feyenoord, the other two historical dominators of Eredivisie.
Ajax is also one of only five clubs allowed to keep the European Cup and to wear the badge of honour, as they won consecutively during 1971 and 1973. They were also the winners of Eredivisie and of the KNVB Cup tournament in 1972, which made them the only club to accomplish the European Treble and to keep the European Cup. The 1971-1972 was an extraordinary season for Ajax, as they won the International Cup as well; thanks to this achievement they are one of the only two teams to grab The Treble and the International Cup during the same season or calendar year.
Ajax’s long history of almost 110 years is very interesting, full of cultural topics and issues. An example might be the fans’ tradition of using Jewish symbols for encouraging the team.
